Augusta National Golf Club, sometimes referred to as Augusta or the National, is one of the most famous and exclusive golf clubs in the world. Founded by Bobby Jones and Clifford Roberts, the course was designed by Jones and Alister Mackenzie and opened for play in 1932. Augusta was founded on the 365-acre site of a former nursery called Fruitland in Augusta, GA. Jones sought to create a world-class winter golf course in his native state of Georgia. Its first club professional was Ed Dudley, who served in the role until 1957; Dudley was one of the top tournament professionals of his era, with 15 wins on the PGA Tour.

The Masters were first held in 1934 in an attempt to attract crowds and

players. Since 1934, the club has played host to the annual Masters Tournament, one of the four major championships in professional golf. Scheduled for the first full week of April, the Masters is the first major of the year, and unlike the others, it is always held at the same location, Augusta National Golf Club. The tournament is an official money event on the PGA Tour, the European Tour, and the Japan Golf Tour. The field of players is smaller than those of the other major championships because it is an invitational event.

Since 1949, a green jacket has been awarded to the champion, but he must return it to the clubhouse one year after his victory. Although it remains his personal property, the jacket is stored with other champions' jackets in a specially designated cloakroom.

Augusta National Golf Club - Green Jacket & Magnolia

Augusta National Golf Club - Green Jacket & Magnolia Wood

Famously, each of the holes at Augusta National are named for a tree, bush, shrub, or flower found on the course. Hole 5 at Augusta National is called Magnolia.

Among the trees and flowers of Augusta National, perhaps the best known of them all is the magnolia.

This handmade item was crafted by the artisan signed below using magnolia wood and tailor's trimmings from one of the infamous "green jackets". Although both of these items have been collected directly from the Augusta National Golf Club, the jacket relic is not attributed to any one golfer in particular. These materials have been sourced, certified, and distributed by Hardin Penworks. LLC.

Magnolia Lane

The entrance to Augusta National is Magnolia Lane. The Magnolia is found in Asia, as well as North, Central and South America. Fascinating Fact: Magnolia trees, as a species, are older than bees, and relied on beetles for pollination. While Mississippi is known as the Magnolia state, the it also is the state flower of Louisiana.
